I'm Sarai Perez.
A Dominican-born, plant-based chef with a soft spot for hearty homestyle meals.
I grew up in the kitchen, always at my Grandmother's side, watching her cook for our family. When we moved to NYC in 2002, cooking was always something that connected us back to our home.
In 2019, I made the choice to become fully vegan and pushed myself to find new ways of creating the dishes I grew up making with my Grandmother.
In the years after we moved, I found inspiration for my cooking across the world. From Italy to the Middle-East, each culture informed my choices, techniques and ultimately the meals I make.
Alta Garden is the culmination of years of cooking exploration combined with a heritage of homecooked goodness.
